For content teams who manage longer form content like blogs, press releases, articles, and documentation, the dotCMS Block Editor now offers a familiar, focused, and more accessible writing experience — without changing how your content is stored or delivered.
The Block Editor is the Story Block field you add to any content type to compose rich, structured content. This release rebuilds the editing experience around the patterns authors already know. A persistent top toolbar — the Google Docs and Word pattern — keeps every formatting control in the same place instead of in a menu that floats over your text. A new focus mode expands the editor into a large, distraction-free canvas for long-form writing. A larger asset picker gives you room to browse and search for images, video, and content to embed, and multi-word search in the content picker now refines correctly instead of failing on queries with spaces. Adding a link searches your internal dotCMS pages and suggests matches as you type.
Output is cleaner and more accessible, too: tables carry proper header scope, captions, and aria labels; subscript and superscript render as real sub and sup elements; and a new clean-semantic renderer is available for headless front-ends — all rendered consistently across dotCMS templates and the React and Angular SDKs.
The editor now runs on the maintained TipTap v3 foundation in a rearchitected, more extensible integration layer. The stored content shape is unchanged structured JSON, so there is no content migration and existing content renders exactly as before.
For Content and Marketing Teams
Write in a familiar surface — a fixed top toolbar like the tools you already use, so controls never move or get in the way.
Focus mode expands the editor into a large, distraction-free canvas for long-form drafting.
Find and place images, video, and content faster in a larger asset picker, with multi-word content search that actually narrows results.
Add internal links by searching dotCMS pages directly from the editor — no copying URLs by hand.
For Developers and Platform Teams
Same structured JSON output and the same governance field variables — no content migration, no consumer changes required.
A new opt-in clean-semantic Angular SDK renderer emits lean, standards-aligned markup for headless front-ends.
Accessible table semantics (scope, caption, aria) render consistently across dotCMS templates and both the React and Angular SDKs.
A rebuilt integration layer on the standard TipTap v3 foundation is easier to extend with custom blocks.
Drafting a long-form article without distractions
A marketer writing a detailed product update switches into focus mode, drafts in a clean full-screen canvas, drags blocks to reorder a section, and pulls a diagram from the larger asset picker — all without leaving the editor or filing a developer ticket.
Embedding the right content on the first try
A technical writer searches a multi-word phrase like “release notes archive” in the content picker and gets refined results instead of a scroll-through list, then embeds the correct contentlet inline. Adding a reference link, they type a page title and choose the match from the dropdown.
Shipping accessible, structured content to a headless front-end
A developer consumes the Block Editor structured JSON through the Angular SDK clean-semantic renderer, delivering tables with proper header scope and captions to a headless site — output that meets accessibility standards across every channel.
