Licensing That Fits Your IT Strategy

dotCMS Community and Enterprise products are covered by separate licenses. While dotCMS Community is distributed under the traditional GPL 2.0 open source guidelines, dotCMS Enterprise offers an exclusive license that provides assurance and infrastructure that comes with a commercially backed open source product.

Introducing the dotCMS Open License (Enterprise Only).

dotCMS has seen first-hand how corporations and other institutions have embraced as well as grappled with terms and requirements of open source licensing (GPL 2.0). While in-house developers and web professionals enjoy the flexibility, rapid growth and community participation, business executives and IT stakeholders have continued to struggle with the "openness" of it all.

The issues that swirl around open source include lack of indemnification, lack of warranty, intellectual property rights and re-distribution rights. Many organizations consider open source in conflict with their established IT and business practices. They consider certain parts of their authored code as a competitive advantage and/or a valuable IP asset. Therefore, they want more assurance, control and rights to their work while still benefitting (and contributing where appropriate) to the community.

dotCMS understands these requirements and has developed a license that provides professional stability and reasonable controls.

The dotCMS Open License and Annual Subscription is in direct response to the marketplace needs and the demand for a commercial-grade open source license. It provides clear indemnification, warranty as well as grants both non-viral and redistribution rights to the subscriber while maintaining the benefits and spirit of open source.

The dotCMS Open License is only available with the dotCMS Enterprise offering.
